Vengono pubblicati saggi, interventi, rassegne e recensioni su aspetti e problemi della musicologia italiana e degli studi sulla musica italiana. Hanno spazio d'espressione sia gli studi di musicologia propriamente 'storica' che le ricerche d'ordine 'sistematico' (nuove metodologie critiche e analitiche dei testi, problemi di storia della recezione, filologia). La rivista accoglie anche studi su temi di confine fra musicologia ed altre aree disciplinari che trattano lateralmente di questioni musicali (psicologia, drammaturgia, storia sociale, storia della committenza, estetica, teoria e storia della letteratura, liturgia, storia delle idee).

Essays, interventions, reports and reviews on the aspects and problems of Italian musicology and the study of Italian music are published in this journal. Ample room is provided both for the study of 'historical' aspects of musicology and the research for systematical order (new critical and analytical methodology of the texts, problems of reception, philology). The journal groups together studies on subjects that border on musicology and other disciplinary areas that deal marginally with music (psychology, drama, social history, history of patronage, aesthetics, theory and history of literature, liturgy and history of ideas).
